Mr. William M. “Billy” Cole — 1927-2019

Mr. William M. “Billy” Cole, 91, of Lanett, passed away on Aug. 1 at his daughter’s residence. He was born on Dec. 9, 1927, in Opelika.

Cole is survived by his children, Debra (Tommy) Reaves, Sherry (Richard) Smith and Scotty Cole; his six grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51.5 years, Marjorie Lumpkin Cole.

Cole was a member of Three Pines Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of West Point Pepperell’s Lanett Mill. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War and later the National Guard. He had been living in Sharpsburg, Georgia with his daughter for the last 10 years.

Funeral services will be held on Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
