Mrs. Carolyn Daniel Hill — 1921-2019

Carolyn D. Hill peacefully went to her Lord on Aug. 13, at Diversicare Nursing Home in Lanett. She was born in LaGrange to Edmund T. Daniel and Wilma H. Daniel. She was married to her husband Thomas (Buck) R. Hill for 50 years before he passed in 1991 and lived in West Point. She was a busy homemaker famous for her artichoke relish, blackberry jelly, chocolate chip cookies and black bottom pie.

She also was well known for her cross-stitch Christmas stockings, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, and Christmas ornaments. She was an avid bridge player and taught her children and grandchildren how to play. She was a faithful and active member of the West Point First Baptist Church.

She was a devoted and caring mother of three children, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will all miss her.

She is survived by her children, Joe H. Hill (Karen), of West Point, Lyda Meadors, of West Point, and Betty Burton, of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Carson Hill, of Athens, Georgia, Michael Hill (Meghan), of Newnan, Georgia, Thomas Hill (Ashlee), of West Point, Katharine Jeffcoat

(Eric), of Portland, Oregon and Dr. Jay Burton (Maura), of Denver; great-grandchildren, Mauve Jeffcoat, Reece Jeffcoat, Tanner Hill, Tristan Hill, Thomas Hill Jr., and Olivia Burton; brother, John Daniel (Dorothy); and sister, Dorothy Wallace also survive her along with many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Mrs. Hill’s memory to a charity of your choice. 

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Marseilles Cemetery in West Point on Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark McGee and the Rev. Tom Tucker officiating. Visitation will be at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Lanett on Aug. 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
