Mrs. Lorene Morgan Edge — 1920-2019

Mrs. Lorene Morgan Edge, 98, of Lanett, passed away on Aug. 15 at LaFayette Extended Care in LaFayette. She was born on Oct. 19, 1920, in Lanett. She was the daughter of the late Robert Hugh Morgan and Magnolia Watkins Morgan. She was reared in Lanett at 203 South 5th, Avenue. She graduated from Lanett High School in 1940.

Lorene enjoyed softball in school where she played shortstop. She loved fishing and if asked to go would always say, “I’m waiting on you.” She enjoyed cookouts, board games, cards especially Rook, croquet, horseshoes and any other game which might include her children and their friends.

She was a member of First Christian Church and was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1934. On Jan. 5, 1952, she married Harold Elmer Edge from Penton.

Their first son, Gary, was born in October 1952, their daughter, Deborah, was born two years later, followed by their third child, Ronnie in 1956. Lorene and Harold were married for 46 years until his death in March of 1998. Their relationship was one of laughter and love and compassion for family, friends and neighbors.

Lorene was employed by West Point Manufacturing Company and worked in the Weave Shed as a smash hand for 42 years. Lorene enjoyed going to Panama City, Florida, for many years to vacation.

At 98, Lorene crossed over the Jordan to her Lord while surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her children, Gary (wife, Stephanie), Debbie, and Ronnie; her two grandchildren, Michael (wife, Katherine) and Noah; her great-grandson, Felix.

Funeral services will be held on Aug. 18 at 3 p.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Mark McGee will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home from 2 p.m. EDT until the service hour.
