Lanett honors drug task force officer

LANETT —The Lanett City Council recognized Lancer Martinez of the Chambers County Drug Task Force Monday night on receiving an award of excellence from the Alabama Narcotics Officers Association.

Agent Martinez and Agent Steve Smith, also of the drug task force, received the awards in recognition of their work in drug enforcement. Smith was honored Sept. 9 by the Chambers County Commission for the same award.

In the past year, Agents Martinez and Smith have arrested 158 individuals on a total of 235 charges, executed 30 search warrants, worked nine distribution cases, nine trafficking cases, and seized 27 guns, six vehicles, a total of $107,836.32, 6,283 grams of marijuana, 2,165 grams of methamphetamine, 48 grams of cocaine, 172 grams of synthetics and 513 pills.

Of these numbers, Martinez made 84 arrests with 164 charges. He also executed 13 search warrants, worked four distribution and three tracking cases and seized $38,771.32, one vehicle, seven guns, 844 grams of methamphetamine, 4,215 grams of marijuana, 405 pills, 60 grams of synthetics and 31 grams of cocaine.

“The cooperative efforts of these two agents and the Chambers County Drug Task Force along with the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force has deservedly earned recognition and commendation from the Chambers County Commission, local chiefs of police and Chambers County Sheriff Sid Lockhart,” said Robert Chambers, project director of the Chambers County DTF. “These two officers are deserving of this statewide award due to their outstanding performance, work ethic and dedication. Agents Martinez and Smith work numerous hours every day with the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force. They are great assets to both our task force and Alabama Drug Enforcement.”
