Mrs. Janice Wilson Covington — 1941-2019

Janice Wilson Covington, of Valley, was united with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 17. Janice was born in Fairfax in 1941 and graduated from Valley High School in 1959. She married Jesse “Eugene” Covington in 1960. They lived in El Paso, Texas, while Gene served in the army. They returned to Shawmut for seven years. When God called them to foreign missions, they attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Janice obtained her degree in Religious Education in 1976. She and Gene served as missionaries in Nalerigu, Ghana, West Africa, at intervals from 1977 to 1988. Janice was dedicated to Christian ministry and served in many areas including WMU, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Well Baby Clinics, Sav-A-Life, Christian Service Center, Celebrate Recovery and Camp Viola. She was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents Robert Woodrow Wilson and Lucy Hood Wilson, of Fairfax. She is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters, Karen Thompson (Alan) and Julia Stodghill (Paul); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two siblings, John R. Wilson and Joyce Ragsdale.

A celebration of life service for Janice will be held at Western Heights Baptist Church on Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. EDT with visitation from 1 to 2. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Western Heights Baptist Church, 2382 West Point Road in LaGrange 30240, “In Memory of Janice Covington” for local and global missions.
