Mrs. Laverne B. Pike — 1925-2019

Mrs. Laverne B. Pike, 94, of Valley, passed away on Sept. 24 at her residence. 

Mrs. Pike was born in Doublehead on July 21, 1925, to the late Robert Birdsong and Amelia Brown Birdsong. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Pike; siblings, Ledford Birdsong, Mary Jo Birdsong Phillips, Billy Birdsong and Lena Mae Birdsong Burt; grandson, Rusty Pike.

She was a member of the Pine Grove Church. 

Mrs. Pike began working in the Fairfax Mill in the towel department at the age of 16 and retired from there 46 years later.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and had a special love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  

She was an avid University of Alabama football fan. She was an excellent baker who made delicious cakes, enjoyed quilting and gardening. Many of the quilts she made were gifts to her friends and family. 

She is survived by her children, Bobby Pike and his wife, Joan, Kaye Pike Stiles, and her husband, Steve, Wayne Pike, and his wife, Cathy; brother-in-law, Frazier “Pete” Phillips; sister-in-law, Lemerle Birdsong; grandchildren, Tammy Pike, Angie Vickers, Tina Aikens, Benji Watkins and Kami Shoemake; 10 great-grandchildren. 

Flowers will be kindly accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to the Pine Ridge Church Building Fund. 

Funeral services will be held on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. EDT at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home chapel in Valley with interment following in Fairfax Cemetery. The Rev. Ricky Thomaston officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10 a.m. EDT until the service hour.
