Being the daughter of a Methodist minister, she lived in many cities in the North Alabama area until her father received an appointment with Goodsell United Methodist Church in the early 1930s. She lived her entire teenage childhood in Lanett residing at the Goodsell parsonage. In 1943, she married Lamar Greenwood and to this union, four children were born.

She was content with the duties of taking care of her husband and children. She enjoyed cleaning, cooking and making sure their home was in order. After their children left for college, her favorite pastime was watching soap operas and talking on the telephone to family and friends.
