Mrs. Mary Jane Conyers — 1922-2019

Funeral services for Mary Jane Conyers, 97, of Roanoke, will be held on Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Cannon and Ms. Blythe Gottleib officiating.
Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Mrs. Conyers passed away on Sept. 8, at Traylor’s Nursing Home.
Survivors include her son, Norman S. Conyers (Sue), of LaFayette; two grandchildren, Denise Lamb and Lou Duffie, both of LaFayette; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Denney (Jordan), of Milltown, and Johanna Bennett, of Rock Mills; two brothers, Sam P. Stewart (Rosemary), of Virginia, and Bob Stewart (Ann), of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Duffie, Ed Lamb, Scott Stewart, Dondi Dunnaway, Craig Calhoun and Joe Sanders.
A Roanoke native, Mrs. Conyers was born on June 4, 1922, the daughter of Whit and Vera Nunn Stewart.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and worked for Shawmut Mill as a winder.
Mrs. Conyers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Conyers; and three sisters, Larue Dunaway, Helen Namie and Nell Smith.
