OUR VIEW: If you know something, say something

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, an incident occurred at the Old Fairfax Kindergarten in Valley and seven people were shot. Two of the seven were lifeflighted to area hospitals, and thankfully it sounds like none of them have life-threatening injuries.

Everyone injured was between the ages of 15 and 24, an all-too common occurrence in our society. And while we don’t know the exact details on what started the argument, police believe it had something to do with a dispute at Friday’s Lanett-LaFayette football game.

An argument can occur anywhere, over just about anything, pretty quickly, and we don’t want to make any assumptions here.

However, we will say that if a potentially deadly shooting occurred because of a football game, it would be completely ignorant.

Unfortunately, the shooter is still on the loose. We hope whoever is responsible is brought to justice swiftly.

Unfortunately, it sounds like police received very little cooperation from the people at the scene Sunday morning, which is unfortunate.

Like any police department, the Valley Police Department is only as strong as the community around it.

It’s very difficult, if not impossible, for the police department to do its job without the help of the people who saw the incident.

If you know anything about the shooting Friday night in Valley, call the Valley Police Department. The person or persons responsible deserve to be arrested and charged for their crimes.
