VALLEY – The fourth in a series of open house events scheduled by the Chambers County School District was held Thursday at W. F. Burns Middle School in Valley.

About 30 people, comprised of parents, current and former educators, elected officials, law enforcement and members of the community participated in the activities.

“Our theme this year is ‘The Incredibles’,” said Assistant Principal Jeff Barnes as he welcomed the group in the school’s media center. “Here at W.F. Burns, we have incredible teachers, incredible students, and we’re having an incredible year.”

Those in attendance were divided into smaller groups and led on tours of the facility conducted by students.

In several locations, boxes containing new equipment were visible, which will soon be put to use. Thanks to increased funding for technology purchases, every student in the entire district will now have their own Chromebook, and the smartboard teaching aids in classrooms are being replaced by interactive panels that function basically the same as a smartphone.

Following the facility tours, participants returned to the media center for a video presentation, featuring faculty and staff introductions, course curriculum studies, athletic programs, and a general description of what a typical day is like.

The presentation concluded with individual students sharing their intraschool experiences. A large variety of refreshments was also available for participants to enjoy.
