MONTGOMERY — The LaFayette Bulldogs (3-4, 3-1) fell to 4A Alabama Christian Academy 14-7 on Friday night.

“Our kids played well,” LaFayette head football coach James Lucas said. “They had three touchdowns called back. The way it was down there was a home-away-from-home, but the kids played well.”

The lone touchdown of the night came in a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jordan Walker to junior wide receiver Ja’Mariae Daniel.

“We had the chance to tie the game with a pick-six, but they called it back,” Lucas said. “We didn’t end up scoring, and that’s how the game ended.”

Having a multitude of factors against road teams is a potential challenge that the Bulldogs can face on the regular-season ending four-game road trip. The calls, however, are one aspect of the game that Lucas prefers not to acknowledge as a hurdle moving forward.

“Our kids played great ball,” he said. “On offense, defense and special teams, they played great ball. Sometimes, the ball doesn’t bounce your way. To me, they were clean blocks, but the officials said otherwise. Like I tell my kids all the time, they have to persevere through things like this and get ready for the next one.”

Now having an overall record under .500 heading into the last two games of the regular season, Lucas said it’s important to keep the big picture in mind for the team that is only one score from being an undefeated 4-0 team in the region.

“We have to just get ready for the next game against Coosa Central, we’ll be ready,” he said. “This is a great team. I’ve always said this is a great team and I still believe that. We’re going to make a deep run in the 2A playoffs. We just have to win next week to guarantee a week one [playoff] matchup at home.”
