Ms. Debra Lucas McConnell — 1954-2019

Ms. Debra Lucas McConnell, 65, of Valley, passed away on Oct. 6 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. She was born on April 8, 1954, in Shelby, Ohio to the late William Lucas and Gayle Lucas Daye.

Ms. McConnell is survived by her sons, Anthony McConnell and Douglas White, both of Valley; her granddaughter, Aubrie Marie White, of Valley; her sisters, Trena (David) Leatherman, of Dalton, Georgia, and Vickie (Jan Hayes) Lucas, of Elkton, Maryland; her nieces, Melissa Hyma, Audrey Partin and Heather Layser; several great-nieces and nephews.

Ms. McConnell graduated from nursing school in 1985. She served as a nurse in the Lanier Hospital operating room from 1986 to 1988 and then became an occupational health nurse for West Point Stevens until her retirement. She loved listening to music and her cats.

A memorial service will be held on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. EDT. at the Lanett Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Kent Pelton will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 3 p.m. EDT until the service hour at the church.
