Valley region championship, No. 1Chambers showdown headlines Friday schedule

There are five games for teams in the Greater Valley Area tonight. The schedule includes a senior night, a homecoming and a chance to crown another region champion.
AISA No. 1-ranked Chambers Academy (9-0, 4-0) hosts AISA No. 5-ranked Bessemer (7-3, 3-1) tonight for a showdown on Tolbert Field. Bessemer has played in every 3A state championship game since the 2013 season. Chambers Academy is currently on a 22-game winning streak in addition to riding a 43-regular season game winning streak as well. Bessemer is coming off of a 49-20 win over Lee-Scott Academy last week, while the Rebels are coming off of a 42-0 shutout win over Meadowview Christian.
LaFayette (4-4, 4-1) heads on the road to face region-opponent Horseshoe Bend (1-7, 1-4). The Bulldogs are coming off of a 48-6 win over Coosa last week, while Horseshoe Bend is coming off of a 27-0 loss to Fayetteville (6-3, 3-3). Friday night’s game marks the final matchup of LaFayette’s regular season until the postseason. In 2018, the Bulldogs defeated Horseshoe Bend 35-6.
After a bye week, Springwood School (3-5, 0-2) is hosting Lakeside (1-6, 0-3) for homecoming. Before the open week, the Wildcats traveled to Columbus to defeat Calvary 28-21. Lakeside is coming off of 35-28 loss to Edgewood. In 2018, Springwood fell to Lakeside in a 33-15 loss. The Wildcats have two regular-season games remaining at home before the postseason.
Troup County (5-2, 2-1) heads on the road to face Cedartown (3-4, 2-1). The Tigers are coming off of a 21-6 win over LaGrange, while Cedartown is coming off 28-21 win over Central on Oct. 11. In 2018, Troup County defeated Cedartown 20-13.
Valley (5-3, 4-1) is hosting Charles Henderson (4-3, 4-1) with a chance to win the region championship for the first time since 2011. The Rams are coming off of a 12-7 loss at Rehobeth last week, while Charles Henderson is coming off of a 27-0 shutout victory over Tallassee. In 2018, Valley defeated Charles Henderson 26-20.
