Mr. Charlie Lee “Ham” Brown — 1942-2019

Life’s Journey came to an end for Mr. Charlie Lee”Ham” Brown on Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2019, in the comfort of his home.

Charlie was born March 24, 1942, to the union of the late William Henry Brown and Mozelle Brown Johnson in Roanoke. Four siblings, William Henry Brown, Jr., Ida Miller, J.D. (Snow)Brown and Rueben Mack Brown preceded him in death.

“Ham,” as he was known, was a 1961 graduate of Lanier High School, where he was the quarterback of the football team. He was a lover of sports, especially, golf.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Melvin Grant Brown of Detroit, Michigan; one daughter, Vertina Webster of Miami, Florida; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jessie Hutchinson and Betty Sanders of Lanett; and Lizzie Scorggins of Atlanta, Georiga; one brother, Bobby Lee Brown, Sr., Lanett and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Brown will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at 1 p.m. EDT in the sanctuary of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, with Dr. Lamar D. Johnson, Pastor serving as the Eulogist and minister. Arthur Charles Walker and the Rev. Alford Booker will be assisting.

The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, from noon until the funeral hour. The family is receiving friends at the residence of Mrs. Betty Sander, 606 20 th Street, SW in Lanett.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
