Ms. Arlene Traylor — 1940-2019

Arlene Traylor, retired and a long-term resident of Valley,  died unexpectedly in her home on Nov. 6 at the age of 79.

Arlene is survived by her daughters Tina Traylor, of Valley, Janet Traylor-Novak, of Auburn; grandchildren, Tera Bell, of Denver, Katie Novak, of Auburn, Tiffany “Tippy” Novak, of Auburn; and great-grandchild, Penelope Park, of Denver.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Joseph and Philomine (Splichal) Novotny; sisters, Adeline York and Carol “Cari” Martin; brother, Edwin Novotny; son, Kenneth Traylor; and husband, James Traylor.

Arlene was born March 17, 1940, in Dickinson, North Dakota, where she resided throughout her childhood, attended high school and met her husband, James Traylor. Upon her husband’s discharge from the United States Air Force in 1960, they moved back to James’ home state of Alabama, settling in Opelika where they were owner/operators of a bar and grill. Arlene was also a long-time employee as a hostess at the local Holiday Inn.

Arlene was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with family. She enjoyed curating her collectibles as well as sewing arts and crafts. 

A visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. EST followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. EST on Nov. 12, at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home on 3700 20th Ave in Valley 36854.
