LaFayette head football coach James Lucas submitted his resignation, which the Chambers County Board of Education accepted on Thursday. The resignation becomes effective Jan. 1.
“We appreciate the work Coach Lucas has done with the LaFayette football program over the past several years, and wish him continued success in his future endeavors,” Chambers County School Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hodge said in a press release.
Lucas was a big reason for the Bulldog’s success. Lucas inherited a team that went 7-13 with two head coaches in as many years. He also coached Jatarvious “Boobee” Whitlow, who starts for Auburn.
The Bulldogs made the playoffs five of the six years Lucas was the head coach at LaFayette. He finishes with a 41-27 record that includes one region title.
Lucas will continue to teach at LaFayette.
