Mr. Alan Lamar Pittard — 1935-2019

Mr. Alan Lamar Pittard, 84 of Valley, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019.

Mr. Pittard was born Feb. 20, 1935 in Jefferson County, Birmingham AL, to the late Redding T. Pittard and Evelyn Caffee Pittard.

He was a 1952 graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham and a 1956 graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in accounting.

After graduation, he worked for Peat Marrick Mitchell, certified public accountants in New Orleans from 1957 to 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 as Chief Accountant for a large finance department. He returned to Birmingham and worked as a Methods Analyst for Liberty National Life Insurance Company from 1960 to 1962. Later worked as a System Analyst for Callaway Mills in Lagrange from 1962 to 1963, and as a computer programmer for Bunker — Ramo, Sierra Vista, Arizona from 1963 to 1965.   He moved to Atlanta in 1965 and worked with Management Science Atlanta as Chief Systems Analyst and then transferred to Kurt-Salmon Associates as Head of Software Division.

For the next 31 years, he formed his own management consultant practice specializing in the textile industry and worked with various clients across the Southeast and Northeast until his retirement at age 70. He married Mattie Lanelle Smith on March 13, 1963 in LaGrange and lived in Valley for the remainder of his life.

He is survived by wife of 56 years, Mattie Lanelle Pittard; and sons, Michael A. Pittard and wife Frances of Florida, Marc L. Pittard of Valley, and Matthew T Pittard and wife Corrine and grand-daughter Sydney Garner of Virginia. Also survived by brother in laws, Tommy Wadkins of Valley and Richard T. Smith and wife Linda of Lanett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019, at 2 p.m. (EST) at the graveside in Fairfax Cemetery, in Valley. The Rev. Mark McGee will officiated. The family will received friends on Monday afternoon from 1 p.m. (EST) until the service hour in the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Chattahoochee Hospice.
