Mrs. Patricia Pattillo (Patti) Slade — 1953-2019

Patricia Pattillo (Patti) Slade,66, of West Point, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. Patti was born on Nov. 4, 1953, in West Point, to the late Olin and Louneal Pattillo.
Patti was preceded in death by her parents and brother- in- law Larry Tomlin.
Patti was the beloved wife of William Raymond (Bill) Slade of West Point for 44 years. She is also survived by her daughter Amy(Rodney) Smith; son William Craig (Holley) Slade; grandchildren Maddie Smith, Sarabeth Smith, Ethan Slade, Kendall Brookes, Kadden Coleman; God Child Bailey Morrison; sisters Jane(Frank) Lake, Linda(Steve) Hulsey, and Marianna (Larry) Tomlin; and four nephews and one niece.
Patti was a wonderful loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed teaching the grandchildren to bake and the importance of sharing with others. She dearly loved her grandchildren and they loved spending time with their Gammomma. She will be truly missed and always be close to her family’s heart.
Patti graduated from LaGrange College with a master’s degree in elementary education in 1976. She was a lifelong member of West Point United Methodist Church and taught elementary education at Springwood school for 37 years.
She was an exceptional teacher and during her career as a teacher, Patti won the “Teacher of the Year” award for years 1996-1997; 2011-2012 and 2018-2019. She was also AISA “Teacher of the Year” for the years 1996-1997; and 2018-2019.
She had a true passion for teaching and truly loved her students and her students truly loved her. This dedication to the hundreds of students that she taught and mentored has made this world a better place.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bluffton Funeral Services in Lanett. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. EST at Bluffton Funeral Services. A private family burial will follow the service.
Reverend John Mattox will officiate.
