CHAMBERS LYONS, LANETT’S STORY NOMINATED FOR STATE POY AWARD

Chambers Academy’s C.J. Lyons and Lanett’s Kristian Story were both nominated for Mr. Football in their respective classifications.

Neither came away with the award as St. Luke’s Jermaine Brown won the 1A award while Tripp Carr from Autauga Academy won the AISA award.

Jan. 5

LAFAYETTE PULLS OFF LATE 40-38 WIN OVER LANETT ON HEARD’S FREE THROWS

LaFayette sophomore Nadya Heard went to the free-throw line with 5.1 seconds left in a tied game. She sunk both giving the Bulldogs a win against the Panthers.

LaFayette went to the free-throw line more than 30 times throughout the course of the game, forcing Lanett to play with three middle schoolers to finish the game.

Jan. 8

LANETT’S STORY NAMED 2020 ALL-AMERICAN

Story was named a second-team All-American squad for juniors by MaxPreps.

He was listed as an athlete on the roster, which is also the position he is listed at on recruiting websites.

Jan. 11

LANETT’S BRIDGES NAMED ALL-AMERICAN

Lanett senior safety Trikweze Bridges was named to the 2018 MaxPreps Small Schools All-American team. He was a first-team defensive back.

He was the second Panther to be named to the list. Bridges is now at the University of Oregon as a defensive back.

Jan 12.

Hall, from Valley, helped coach Clemson to national championship

Lemanski Hall, who coached defensive ends at Clemson, was part of the 2019 College Playoff National Championship winning coaching staff. It was his second national championship at Clemson and third overall, as he won the 1992 national championship at Alabama.

Jan. 15

LAFAYETTE’S GREER FINISHES WITH QUADRUPLE-DOUBLE

In LaFayette’s 58-35 win against Ranburne, Faliah Greer finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals and 10 assists. Out of the four stats, she was most proud of the assists, because her teammates were able to help her achieve that line.

Jan. 22

2003 SPRINGWOOD GRADUATES DAWSON, MOORE HONORED

Jessica Elmore and Bryan Moore were inducted into the Springwood Hall of Fame.

Elmore was part of three region championship teams, one state runner-up basketball team, one final four softball team and played golf for one year.

Moore was part of the 2001 region championship football team and won the 2002 boys state basketball championship.

LAFAYETTE QUARTERBACK MCCURDY COMMITS TO HCC

Jae’Lin McCurdy committed to junior college Highland Community College, located in Kansas. McCurdy decided to join a junior college so a bigger D-1 school could see his talent on the college stage.
