Carl Vinson Mackey

Carl Vinson Mackey was born on June 11, 1959, in West Point to the late Mrs. Christine Mackey and the late Mr. Wallace Simpson. On Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, Carl departed this earthly life at Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta.

Carl joined the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a graduate of West Point High School. After graduating from high school, Carl served in the US Air Force as an E4 SGT for four years as an Inventory Specialist until he was honorably discharged.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father, a brother, Elmer Mackey and a nephew, Larry Bailey Jr.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: two loving and devoted sisters, Zelma Brock and Carolyn (Larry) Bailey Sr. both of West Point; a loving brother, Francais (Mary) Austin of Atlanta; four devoted nephews, Bruce, Chris, Randall and Justin, a host of nieces, other nephews, cousins and friends; special cousin, Andrew(Vanessa)Dobbs, Detroit; special friends, the Rev. Gary and the Rev. Winston Fanning, Jeff and Ron Morgan, Danielle James and Jeanette Davis; a dear and special financial advisor, Tanya Webster.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Mackey will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at 2 p.m. ET in the M.W. Lee Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Shandor Calloway, officiating, Elder Bruce Mackey, eulogist, the Rev. Gary Fanning and the Rev. Winston Fanning, assisting. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Mortuary.

Public viewing will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.
