After its win against Lanett this past Friday, LaFayette head coach Obadiah Threadgill said his team was better than what they showed.

The Bulldogs backed up their coach’s claim with a 77-19 win against area opponent. Horseshoe Bend.

“When you play a team like Lanett, with their level of winning and the athletes they have on their team, it puts a lot of stress on our team,” Threadgill said. “We didn’t do a good job of moving our feet against Lanett… We want to focus on each phase of the game.”

No. 1 LaFayette has bullied the two area opponents it has faced this year, winning by a combined 97 points (152-55 in two games).

“Our young men understand every night is an opportunity to get better, and we know that right now,” Threadgill said. “We just want to try to play basketball and get better and take it and take care of it take care of my area without you know trying to demoralize other team’s programs and coaches.” 

So far every team in 2A Area 9 has played at least two area games. LaFayette and Ranburne each have two wins (Ranburne is 2-1 with two wins against Woodland). Woodland is the only team without a win, sitting at 0-3 in area play. 

Overall, the other three teams in the Bulldogs area sit with a 7-30 combined record with Ranburne leading in wins with three. 

“We know that right now, with this many seniors, the other teams in our area can’t match up with us in our area,” Threadgill said. “We still find ways to improve ourselves outside the score.”

In the two area games, Threadgill has continued to preach to his players the importance of details. He wants them to keep the focus and pay attention to the small details, like blocking out and making foul shots.

The Bulldogs are in action on Thursday when they host area foe Woodland.
