LaFAYETTE — There’s been a change of venue in this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast.
In recent years the event has taken place at Bethlehem Baptist Church in West Point. This year’s breakfast will be taking place at 8 a.m. CST (9 a.m. Eastern) Monday, Jan. 20 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, located east of LaFayette on Highway 50.
This year’s guest speaker will be Mr. Orentha “O.J.” Holloway, who is a commissioned special agent with the U.S. Secret Service.
The cost will be $10 per person at the door. Attendees are asked to wear dressy attire.
The Unity Breakfast will once again be sponsored by the Lambda Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Lanett.
This year’s theme will be “Servants be Obedient, Love and Serve One Another” and is inspired by Ephesians 6:5 and Galatians 5:13.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is the oldest and most prestigious Greek-lettered sorority established by African-American college women.
It was established at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 15, 1908, with five basic tenets: (1) to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, (2) to promote unity and friendship among college women, (3) to help alleviate problems affecting girls and women in order to improve their social stature, (4) to maintain a progressive interest in college life and (5) to be of service to all mankind.
