Mrs. Betty Ann Smith Ogletree

Mrs. Betty Ann Smith Ogletree was the second born child of the late Gertrude Smith. She was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Harris County, Georgia.

She transitioned from her earthly home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at the home of her youngest son.

Betty Ann accepted Christ at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Pickett.

She was a graduate of Harrison High School Class of 1958.

In 1968, Betty Ann was joined in holy matrimony to the late Paul Ogletree, Jr.  She was employed in the private domestic field for over 60 years before retiring. After which, she kept the nursery at The Church of the Resurrection.

Mrs. Ogletree was known for her culinary specialties such as potato rolls, “1.2.3. Pie” and carrot cakes just to name a few.

Betty Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Ervin “Dynamite” Smith and granddaughter, Takelia “Kiea” Smith.

Mrs. Ogletree leaves to cherish in her memories three sons: Rickey L. (Michelle) Smith of Killeen, TX, Roger L. (Alisa) Smith, and Felix J. Smith (beloved caregiver) both of West Point; one daughter: Gwendolyn M. (Clarence) Lewis of LaGrange, Georgia; she adopted and raised: Angela Hill of West Point, Jerome Fields of LaGrange, and Donald Fields of Eureka, California; one granddaughter who she raised: Natasha V. Winston of McDonough, Georgia; 12 grandchildren: Rickea, Rickey, Akira, Antwan, Keidran, Kennard, Derrick, Demarcus, Mikayla, Kaleia; sister in-law, Peggy Ogletree;  three brothers in-law: Tommy Lee, Willie, and Clarence Ogletree and an array of cousins, relatives & friends.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Ogletree will be held in Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at 1 p.m. ET in the sanctuary of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point with the Dr. W. T. Edmondson, Pastor, Eulogist, Moderator Gary L. Dixon, Rev. Charles Trammell, Min. Julia Fanning and Overseer G.L. Fanning, assisting. Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery.

The remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the M. W. Lee Mortuary.
