One female student was transported to a local hospital for facial injuries Tuesday following a fight between four students at Valley High School.

According to a press release from the Valley Police Department, the altercation occurred around 1:20 p.m. between the main building and the north wing of the high school. The school resource officer took the initial call and encountered three female students and one male student involved an altercation.

Valley police were told the incident started when one of the female students bumped into another. The fight resulted in one female student being transferred to EAMC-Lanier by ambulance with facial injuries, according to a statement from Maj. Mike Reynolds of the Valley Police Department. Reynolds said there was no update on the female’s condition.

The male student was arrested and charged with third degree assault and the other students will be charged with disorderly conduct.

Reynolds said student resource officers typically handle incidents at the school, so it was unclear how often these types of altercations occur at the school.

Superintendent Kelli Hodge did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.
