VALLEY — Clean Up Valley Week was originally planned to take place the first week of April. It’s being pushed back at least one month due to the spread of COVID-19 and is tentatively set for the week of May 4-9.

If it goes as currently planned, extra trucks will be picking up household garbage the week of May 4, and extra trucks will pick up yard debris the week of May 11.

Valley Parks & Recreation Director Laurie Blount discussed the postponement at Monday meeting of the Valley City Council.

She said that the Farmers’ Market Pavilion will once again be the central location for the recycling of unwanted electronic items.

“It will be a free drop-off location for any old electronic item with a cord,” she said. “We will also be taking old tires, appliances and other items AmWaste will not pick up on their regular runs. This will be taking place on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. EDT. The shredder truck will be there from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, May 9. This will be a good time for you to shred any items at no cost to you.”

It’s not yet determined whether there will be a Clean Up Valley Day. This normally involves civic groups, businesses, churches and friends coming together to form teams to go out in the neighborhoods to pick up roadside litter. They normally meet at the Community Center, which is currently closed due to COVID-19. An announcement will be made at a later date.
