At the Lanett Board of Education meeting on Monday, Lanett interim principal Bryant Lumpkin received the news he had been hoping for — he was officially named Lanett’s principal.
“I am very excited to make it official,” Lumpkin said. “Having served as principal this past year, I am confident that we will continue to move Lanett City Schools in the right direction. Our students, parents, staff, administration and school board are extraordinary.”
Lumpkin was named the interim principal in early July and served as the school’s principal during the 2019-20 school year.
“The amount of support that everyone has shown me has been unbelievable, and I am very appreciative,” Lumpkin said. “I look forward to the new school year and all of the challenges and opportunities that come with it.”
Lumpkin grew up in Lanett and attended the high school.
He graduated from Lanett in 2002 and moved to Auburn for college. After graduating from college, Lumpkin returned to Lanett and began teaching at the high school as one of the science teachers starting during the 2006-07 school year.
He taught for eight years before being promoted to assistant principal. He was the assistant principal for four years.
Lumpkin’s career goals are to continue to develop the students of the community he grew up in.
