The Troup County School System is moving forward with plans for in-person graduations next week.
On Wednesday, all three high schools are handing out graduation tickets to seniors from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each student can get four tickets each.
Callaway High graduates on July 23, Troup High on July 24, and LaGrange High on July 25. All three graduations will take place at Callaway Stadium at 8:30 a.m. If there’s rain, the ceremony will be delayed until later that day until it can take place.
TCSS announced several safety measures during Monday’s school board session.
As part of those precautions, everyone who attends will have their temperature taken as they enter the stadium, and masks will be available. Each person who attends will also complete a health questionnaire at the stadium.
None of the graduations will have a processional. Instead, graduates will head straight to their seats when they enter the stadium.
TCSS’ largest graduation ceremony will involve around 290 students, so with each student having four tickets that’s around 1,250 people in Callaway Stadium. Superintendent Brian Shumate said the stadium has a capacity of 5,000.
“We can keep people safely distanced in pods of four up in the stands,” Shumate said. “We are going to highly recommend the use of masks.”
The graduation ceremonies will be live streamed. The school system also held virtual graduations in May for all three high schools.
