Students in the Speech 106 class at Southern Union State Community College are sponsoring a food drive on SUSCC’s Valley Campus to benefit the college’s Bison Food Pantry.

The class invites community participation in the drive. Non-perishable food items and toiletries will be accepted through Nov. 17 and can be dropped off at the Valley Campus lobby, located at 321 Fob James Drive.

The Bison Pantry has an Amazon Wish List if you prefer online shopping. You can easily contribute by visiting the Wish List at this link: http://bit.ly/3QnwuVe. The items purchased from the Wish List will be sent directly to the Bison Food Pantry.

The goal of the Bison Food Pantry is to address food insecurity among Southern Union students by providing nutritious food and basic essentials to students so they can focus on their education.

The only requirement to use the Bison Food Pantry is that the user must be a currently enrolled student who is experiencing food insecurity. An increase in the number of students

It is estimated that one in three students on college campuses across the country experience food insecurity.

“We want to make sure that our students are healthy and are able to perform well academically. Being hungry is an obstacle that can prohibit that,” said Anna Reed, coordinator of the Bison Food Pantry. “We appreciate the community’s support in fighting this largely under-recognized barrier to education.”
