Mrs. Carlos Louise Busby, 90, of LaFayette died Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her residence.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Vines Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. (CST) with Rev. Cecelia Broome officiating. Interment will be in Essie J. Handy Cemetery, LaFayette.  The remains will lie in state at the Chapel from 12:00 p.m. (CST) until the funeral hour.  Public viewing and visitation with the family will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CST) at Vines Funeral Home Chapel.

Carlos was born May 23, 1933, to the late Leroy & Tommie Lee Ray in Temple, Texas.  She graduated from Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas and Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University in Prairie View, Texas.  Carlos received her graduate education from the University of California at Berkeley.  Carlos was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. In 1955 she married Willie Terry Busby and had three children. Carlos taught school for almost thirty years in Houston, Texas, San Jose, CA and Oakland, CA.  Carlos was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  She knew her strength and perseverance brought her through bouts of breast cancer, which came from her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  If you spoke with her for a minute, she would excitedly tell you, her testimony. Carlos’s faith never wavered. Carlos was an amazing piano player and would play for local community churches.  She also played the piano weekly, (until 2020) at the LaFayette Extended Care Facility, where she would also share and read scriptures with the residents—this weekly routine became her ministry.

Carlos is survived by her husband, Willie Terry Busby, her two daughters: Terry Yvonne (Alphonza) Vester and Alma Busby-Williams; one son: Ronald Derrick Busby; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Carl) Bell, Alex Vester, Jill Busby, Geoffrey Vester, Sean Vester, Ronald Busby, Jr., and Chris Williams; one great grandson, Jeremiah Bell; a devoted friend: Emma Broome and special caregivers: Betty Wright and Diane Bullard and a host of other relatives and friends.
