Two brothers have been arrested for the murder of Karl O. Scott that took place in Lanett on Nov. 11. According to the Lanett Police Department, brothers, Dantavious Davidson and Jarod Moreland have been arrested in connection with the murder. Both men are being held without bond at the Chambers County Jail.
Davidson, 29, of Valley, was arrested on Nov. 13 in connection with the murder, according to the press release. Moreland, 35 of Lanett was arrested on Thursday for unrelated drug charges as a part of the Chambers County Drug Task Force.
According to Detective Hicks of the Lanett Police Department, Moreland was arrested with crack cocaine, ecstasy, MDMA, marijuana and a stolen firearm. Hicks had issued the warrant for Moreland’s connection in the murder and had been looking for him along with the United States Marshal Service. The warrant for Scott’s murder was served to Moreland after his drug arrest.
Scott and Moreland had run-ins with each other before the murder. Hicks said there is no complete motive as of right now, but appears to be related to a property dispute the two were having. He confirmed that Moreland and Davidson are brothers.
The Lanett Police Department Criminal Investigation Division issued both warrants and is conducting the investigations. The LPD was dispatched to North 12th Ave in response to a gunshot victim on Nov. 5. Scott was found in the bedroom of his home with multiple gunshot wounds. Lanett EMS transported him to a regional medical center where he passed.
