The Valley Rams continued their quest for a consecutive state championship as Valley beat Troup 82-72 on the road.

After taking a one-point lead into halftime, Valley outscored by 11 points in the second half to take control of the game.
This game marked Valley’s first back-to-back of the season, and there were definitely some lulls early on. The Rams looked re-energized in the second half to remain undefeated.

“It was slow in the first half, and we weren’t closing out, but I expected that,” Valley coach Marshon Harper said. “We were 9-for-21 from the free throw line, and we were still up at halftime. They brought the energy back in the second half and closed it out.”

Cam Dooley has been lights out this season for the Rams. On Saturday, Dooley led the team with 38 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Dooley, along with Brandon Thomas, have spearheaded the start for Valley. Thomas poured in 17 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Jay Harper followed Dooley and Thomas with ten points from the guard spot. Ian Crim-Davis added seven points.

Jalen Brown led the Tigers with 26 points. DeJaylen Campbell and Jay Johnson each had 10 points apiece.

Valley did its best work on the offensive glass. The Rams routinely got three or four shots per possession.

“You got two DI, Power Five, players down there at the bottom,” Harper said. “We should be able to rebound the ball.”

The win on Saturday pushed Valley’s record to 4-0 on the season. Up next for the Rams is a game on the road against Handley on Dec. 5.

“We’ve got to develop a bench,” Harper said.
