A car chase that started in Lee County led to an accident in Valley where four people were injured.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office entered into a car chase with a vehicle matching the description of a stolen Union Springs vehicle at 10:17 a.m. on Thursday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to LCSO Sheriff Jay Jones, a deputy pursued a vehicle on I-85 starting at mile marker 66. The vehicle turned off at exit 77, the Valley exit. From there, Jones said the deputy lost sight of the vehicle and ended the pursuit. Valley Police Department continued the pursuit into Valley.

The chase led to a crash involving a pedestrian vehicle which caused multiple injuries. The Valley Police Department confirmed four individuals were injured.

According to an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency press release, both northbound lanes of U.S. 29 near the 205-mile marker were blocked and remained closed while troopers investigated. ALEA sent an update that roadways had reopened around 3:26 p.m. ET.

Jones said the deputy pursued the vehicle because it matched the description and license plate of a vehicle that was reported as stolen at gunpoint in Union Springs.

ALEA, Valley Police Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, East Alabama Fire & EMS and Lanett Fire & EMS responded to the wreck.
