Due to the threat of potential tornadoes and severe weather, Lanett City Schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 12, according to a statement from the schools system.

Chambers County was placed under a slight risk for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service of Birmingham. Lanett and Valley are in a wind advisory for wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph.

“We encourage our Panther family to remain weather alert,” said Lanett Superintendent Jennifer Boyd in a statement to the VTN.
