The Chambers County Commission awarded three projects from the highway department to the low bidders during Monday’s commission meeting.

Chris Clark Grading and Paving was awarded the Chambers County Annual Paving, Planning and Reclamation Bid. Gary Ingram Grading and Paving was awarded the Chambers County Annual Surface Treatment Bid.

County Engineer Josh Harvill said the rate for the paving bid went up by about 3 percent this year.

Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions was awarded the Annual Liquid Asphalt Bid.

“This is the significant item,” Harvill said during the commission work session. “It generates how much chip sealing we can do annually.”

The Association of County Commissioners of Alabama put out a statewide bid for liquid asphalt. There were two contractors awarded two different items.

“We would have had to logistically coordinate the same project with two suppliers of asphalt based on the two different types of asphalt we use,” Harvill said. “And so I chose to bid it ourselves and to limit it to one award.”

The county pricing was much cheaper than the ACCA bid as well.
