In preparations for the March 5 primary, the Chambers County Probate Judge Paul Story gave updates for the election day. 

There was some confusion over where voters in Lanett would vote, Story said. Lanett High School Precinct, which has been the polling place previously will eventually be changed to the Lanett Recreation Center. However, not for the March 5 election. Voters at the High School precinct will have to go to the High School in order to vote. 

“It wouldn’t be required to move a polling site from the school to the rec center that would have to happen next election cycle at the earliest, with everything that has to be filed,” Story said. 

There will be a sign posted at the Rec Center saying that the High School is still the precinct for this cycle, to avoid confusion on the March 5 primary election. 

He will be posting the changes to the precinct for two sites. The old Sparkling Springs will be changed to the Mountain Springs precinct located at the Mountain Springs Baptist Church. Lakeview precinct will also be changed to Lanier precinct, moving to Lanier Baptist Church. 

Story is running in the primary so the chief clerk of his office will be fulfilling the duties of the probate job on election day including going to the precincts on the day and checking machines.  A third-party vendor will be on site on election day to report the results. Steve Wheeler, an ALFA insurance salesman, will be calling the results as Story is unable to do that as a candidate.
