VALLEY — The annual kickoff meeting for the Hike/Bike/Run fundraiser for Valley Haven School took place Tuesday evening. This will be the 49th year for the Hike/Bike/Run and 28th year for LaFayette Day.

For a third year in a row, the annual Hike/Bike/Run Auction will be taking place at the school. Previous auctions took place inside Valley Community Center. This year’s auction is scheduled for Friday evening, April 19.

Items for the auction are stored at the school. Having the auction at the same location eliminates the necessity of having to transport them to the Community Center.

This year’s auction will be getting underway at 5:30 p.m. EDT and will continue until around 10 p.m. The doors will open at 5 p.m. so interested bidders can see all the items that will be up for bids.

There are lots of ways to take part in the Hike/Bike/Run. Some people help out by participating in casual days at area banks and other businesses. These will be taking place this year for four consecutive Thursdays – April 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th.

LaFayette Day will be held on the east side of the Chambers County Courthouse. It will get underway at 9 a.m. Central Time and end around 3 p.m. (10-4 Eastern). The annual car show runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central or 10-2 Eastern. The annual motorcycle ride will start at 9:30 a.m. CT (10:30 Eastern) at the Alabama/Georgia line next to Greene’s Super Drugs in Lanett. The route usually heads south toward Opelika and then goes north along US 431 to LaFayette.

The 28th annual Peach Walk will be taking place on Friday, May 3 at the Georgia Welcome Center on I-85 in West Point.

The Hike/Bike/Run is set for the next day, Saturday, May 4. There will be an opening ceremony at 8 a.m. EDT followed by the five-mile Jane Carmack Memorial Walk, a one-mile run and one-mile walk. There will be a 4k run at 8:30 a.m. and a 10-mile bike ride and a kids’ ride in front of the school getting underway at 9 a.m. The final event of the day will be a 5k run starting at 9:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow at 11 a.m.

“A children’s fun area with games and activities will be provided that day,” said Valley Haven Executive Director Craig Brown. “We will have great fun for the whole family on Saturday morning, May 4. For more information, please call us at the school at (334) 756-2868.”
