Beulah falls at home in defensive battle

The Beulah Bobcats lost to the Beauregard Hornets 2-1 Tuesday in a nailbiter. 

It was a game of missed opportunities for Beulah. The Bobcats had a chance to break the game open in the bottom of the first inning as they had bases loaded with one out. The next two batters struck out for the Bobcats as three runners were left stranded. 

The Hornets got the scoring started in the next half-inning. Brady Blackston hit the first batter in the inning before the second reached on an error. Beauregard then got on the board after a fielder’s choice.

Beulah had a chance to answer in the bottom of the third inning as the Bobcats had the bases loaded with no outs. The Hornets once again were able to work their way out of trouble as the next two batters struck out before the inning ended on a fielder’s choice. 

Beulah finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brayden Tapley got the inning started with a one-out double. Trent Tidwell then drove Tapley in with a single into left field. 

Offense was in short supply for most of the game, but the Hornets were able to get runners on base in the top of the sixth inning, and a sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run. 

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Sye Siggers found his way on base after being hit by a pitch Devin Suggs came up to bat and hit a ground ball that resulted in an error, but Siggers was thrown out advancing to third to end the game. 

Brady Blackston got the start for Beulah on Tuesday. Blackston allowed one run (no earned), two hits and struck out four batters in four innings of work. 

Jadin Hancock came in for relief in the fifth inning and had a solid outing. Hancock allowed just one run (no earned), two hits and struck out one batter in three innings on the mound. 

The Bobcats combined for six hits at the plate on Tuesday. Wes Grant, Tapley and Tidwell each went 1-for-3 in the game. 

The loss on Tuesday dropped Beulah’s record to 4-7 on the season. Up next for the Bobcats is a matchup on the road against Handley on Thursday.
