Lady Skyhawks swept in doubleheader at home

The Lady Skyhawks hosted William Carey on Thursday for a Southern States Athletic Conference Doubleheader. 

Game One: Point – 0 William Carey – 9

The Knights jumped on the Skyhawks early in game one and never relented as William Carey took a dominant 9-0 win.

The Knights scored in every inning of game one. The first score came on a triple in the top of the first inning and two more runs were added on a double in the top of the second inning. 

William Carey scored three runs in the top of the third inning. The first run came on a passed ball before two more runs scored with a single. A single in the top of the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning brought home the final runs for the Knights. 

Katelyn Jiles got the start in the circle for the Skyhawks. Jiles pitched all five innings, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits and three walks. Jiles’ record dropped to 2-13 after the loss. 

The Skyhawks were completely stifled in the matchup, finishing with no hits in the game. Wellesley Henderson drew a walk in the bottom of the third inning to Ryanne Horsnby’s perfect game bid. 

Game two: Point – 3 William Carey – 13

The second game of the doubleheader started differently for the Skyhawks. Point had a chance to win the game late before William Carey erupted for 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning. 

The Skyhawks started the game with a 1-0 lead as Hannah Phillips scored on an error in the top of the first inning. The Knights took the lead back with one run in the top of the second inning and two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. 

Henderson scored in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at three before William Carey took the game over late. The two losses on Thursday dropped Point’s record to 5-23 on the season. Up next for the Skyhawks is a matchup at home against Mobile on Friday.
