Point splits doubleheader at home

The Point Skyhawks split a doubleheader against Middle Georgia State on Thursday as Point lost the first game 6-4 before winning the second game 2-1. 

The Knights scored runs in each of the last two innings of the first matchup to take the win. The Skyhawks struggled, only mustering three hits in game one. 

Julio Lopez received the loss for Point as he allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in five innings of work on the mound.

The Skyhawks won game two thanks to a dominant showing from the defense. 

Maxime Beaulieu got the start for the Skyhawks in game two. Beaulieu allowed just three hits in five innings of work, and he struck out four batters. 

Hunter Neumayer gave the Skyhawks their first run as he drove Rafael Jackson in with a single to tie the game at one. 

The final blow for the Skyhawks came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Alex Marquand drove Silas Butler in on a single to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead. 

Joshua Castillo came in to shut the door for the Skyhawks, allowing no hits and striking out one batter in the final frame. 

The split doubleheader on Thursday puts Point’s overall record at 14-7 on the season. The Skyhawks will close out the three-game series against Middle Georgia State at home on Friday.
