Update: Body of lost kayaker recovered

The search for a missing kayaker has ended. Rescuers found Timothy Davis’ body on Sunday afternoon, according to the Harris County Coroner, Joe Weldon. Davis, and his young daughter, Xelora,  who died after being transported to a local hospital, were Lanett residents. 

Troup County 911 got a call on Saturday about a father and child who went on a kayak trip down Flat Shoals Creek and did not return. 

“Kayak started filling up with water and it flipped, and he and my grandbaby were on it,” said the missing kayaker’s mother, Irene Knuckles, emotionally.

The father, Timothy Davis, and his daughter Zalora, a toddler, were near where the creek intersects with Highway 103 when their kayak took on water and flipped, According to Timothy’s mother. They floated downstream.

Xelora was found near the Riverview Boat ramp last night. She was life-flighted to a local Hospital where she died. The father, Timothy Davis, has not been found. Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR) was in charge of the search. According to a member of the search and rescue team, the search radius was from the 103 intersection down to Riverview where the child was found. Harris County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

GDNR went in kayaks going south down Flat Shoals Creek to the boat ramp. Davis’ family and volunteers had been at Riverview to continue to search for Timothy. According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, the East Alabama Swift Water Rescue team also assisted.
