“One of the greatest joys of being elected is being able to bring money home to your district,” Wood said to the VTN.

“Senator Price and I got together and decided that there’s a great need within the community for us to update our playground equipment for our students,” she added.

Chambley thanked the legislators on behalf of the CCSD and noted that the funds will be shared with the schools across the district and utilized to support our students and staff. According to Assistant Superintendent David Owens, each of the district’s school can use the funds as they see fit.

Wood’s donation amount totaled $55,000 and Price’s donation included a sum of $60,000. In all the CCSD received $115,000 from the local elected officials to support local schools in Chambers County.

Wood’s donation included three $5,000 checks that she personally delivered to the principals at Bob-Harding Shawmut Elementary School, Fairfax Elementary School and Huguley Elementary School.

“So $50,000 of that is something that we wanted to set aside to help update the playground equipment at Fairfax and Huguley,” Wood said. “We feel like it’s very needed.”

Wood said she also delivered a check for $4,600 to Valley High School Science Teacher Drew MacKay to sponsor scholarships for two junior or senior students to go to space camp.

“Senator Price and I decided to get together and offer that money together in this community,” Wood said. “There could be a greater impact and I’m so excited about it.”
