The Valley Rams have continually set new standards for the baseball program this season, and that trend continued as Valley beat St. Paul’s Episcopal 8-3 in the decisive game three in the second round.

The Rams never trailed in the matchup as Braylon Carter got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with an RBI single. Bryson added to the lead with a two-run double to give Valley a 3-0 lead.

The Saints fought back with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning, but the Rams stifled any chance of a comeback with a fielder’s choice to score a run and a sacrifice fly from Mason Yarbrough. Seth Hammock capped the top of the third inning with an RBI single to give Valley a 6-1 lead.

The lead got even better for Valley as C.J. Chambley drove in a run with a single in the top of the sixth inning and Ty Monteith drove in Valley’s final run with a sacrifice fly.
St. Paul’s put together a late rally as a run scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning and another run scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Saints then had runners on second and third, but Hammock got the Rams out of the jam with a strikeout to end the game.

Hammock pitched a complete seven innings for the Rams and allowed six hits, two earned runs and four walks while striking out seven batters.

Chambley led the way for Valley at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Sanders, Hammock and Carter each pitched in two hits.

The win pushed Valley’s record to 24-5 on the season. The Rams will face Holtville at home in the next round. The two teams faced off on Feb. 29 and Valley came away with a 4-2 win on the road.
