VALLEY, ALABAMA (May 22, 2024)- The City of Valley, the Chambers County Development Authority (CCDA), and Valley Village Square South LLC are thrilled to announce the expansion of the Village Square Shopping Center located at 3418 20th Ave, Valley, AL 36854. The expansion will add 40,000 square feet of new retail space and represents an investment of over $10,000,000 and the potential creation of over 200 new jobs. The expansion will include the construction of a new in-line center with 6 retail spaces, an out-parcel development, and the build-out of an expanded parking lot. Several national retail tenants have driven this project, and they will introduce new concepts that will cater to the Greater Valley Area. These committed tenants include:

Marshalls – Marshalls was acquired by TJX in 1995, and together with T.J. Maxx, forms Marmaxx, the largest off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. Marshalls has stores across the U.S., including Puerto Rico. Marshalls also operates an e-commerce site, marshalls.com. They will open in the largest retail space in the shopping center.

Five Below – Five Below Inc. is an American chain of specialty discount stores that prices most of its products at $5 or less, plus a smaller assortment of products priced up to $25. There are over 1,400 stores located across the United States.

Petsense- Petsense by Tractor Supply is a pet specialty retailer focused on meeting the needs of pet owners, primarily in small and mid-size communities. They specialize in providing a large assortment of pet food, supplies, and services, such as grooming and training, and offering customers a tailored experience while providing the top-quality products they need at a price they love. They are also committed to promoting responsible pet ownership through pet adoptions, community involvement and education.

Express Oil- Express Oil is the home of the 10-minute drive-through oil change and a trusted brand for tires, brakes, alignments, and full auto services. Since opening their first location in 1979, they’ve grown into a national leader in automotive service with 354 locations across 19 states. Express will operate in the outparcel fronting the Shopping Center.

“This is a tremendous step in the right direction for our continued retail growth in the City of Valley,” said Mayor Leonard Riley. “The impact of this expansion will not only grow our tax base but will also help attract more development. I am pleased that there will be more retail opportunities for our citizens to enjoy, and I’m proud to welcome these new businesses to our community.”

“We’ve been working on this project for over a year and a half, and I’m thrilled that we are finally able to see it come to fruition,” CCDA Executive Director Chris Busby said. “So much work goes on behind the scenes on these types of projects and there were many hurdles to overcome on this one, but success wouldn’t be possible without a total team effort. I must thank Mayor Riley and the City Council for their dedication and support of the project, they understood the impact this will have on our community from the start. Credit goes to Reid Riley and his team in the planning and development department, and to Tony Segrest and East Alabama Water, Sewer, and Fire Protection District. Obviously, none of this would have been possible without Mark Ayer of Valley Village Square, who jumped into action when we approached him with these tenants. He continues to be a great partner to the city. Finally, the team here at the CCDA all contributed to making this project happen, and their work helped get this across the finish line.”

Site work has already begun on the site and plans are for the Express Oil to be open next month, while the tenants for the full center expect to be open by the Summer of 2025. Work has already begun to bring in the final tenants in the center.
