Funeral services for Peggy Buckalew Hamby, age 76, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Rock Stand Congregational Christian Church with Bro. Stoney Halsey and Bro. Kenneth Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30-7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.  Mrs. Hamby will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Mrs. Hamby passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Traylor’s Retirement Center in Roanoke.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lisa Treadwell (David) of Roanoke; one son, James Hamby of Wadley; seven grandchildren, Kody Waldrop (Morgan), Kendall Hamby, Hannah Hamby, Cagan Hamby, Kaleigh Treadwell, Elyssa Johnson (Trae), and Tyler Treadwell (Gina); 11 great-grandchildren, Leah, Caroline, Brooks (on the way), Canaan, Asher, Sophie, Brody, Gage, Lainey, Jace, and Emmie; three sisters, Nell Clayton, Barbara Holstun, and Brenda Smith, all of Valley; and one brother-in-law, Van Hamby (Pat) of Notasulga.

Pallbearers will be Kody Waldrop, Cagan Hamby, Trae Johnson, Tyler Treadwell, Kyle Treadwell, and Mitchell Brown.

A Chambers County native, Mrs. Hamby was born on October 30, 1947, the daughter of Lorenzo and Kathleen Smith Buckalew.  She attended Rock Stand Congregational Christian Church and worked as a weaver for Mohawk before retiring.  Mrs. Hamby had many hobbies she enjoyed including cross-stitching, coloring, and reading.  She was also enjoyed cooking for her family and was a great one.  Mrs. Hamby loved her grandchildren and animals.  She enjoyed going on cruises and had visited several different countries while on the different cruises she had taken.  Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Hamby; two brothers, Junior Buckalew and Bo Buckalew; and one sister, Faye Meacham.

Memorials may be floral or donations may be made an ovarian cancer organization.
