Valley:

The Rams are coming off their first win of the season over Smiths Station. This week they will travel for their region opener against Central of Clay County. It will be a tough matchup, as the Volunteers are ranked 25th in the state and won the region last year, finishing with a 10-1 record. CCCHS beat Valley last season 47-0. The Rams will hope for the momentum from last Friday to continue against the powerhouse.

Last Friday’s game saw an uneventful first half followed by an explosive second. Valley was almost exclusively rushing, with 384 yards running, and only 15 passing yards. The bulk of milage was from running back Tilyn Carrell with 176 yards over 13 carries. However, Galvin Goss was especially efficient, with 7 rushes for 113 yards and three of Valley’s touchdowns.

Goss also has six tackles on the defensive side. The tackle leaders for the Rams were Antwan Greenwood, Jaylan Roberts and Cole House, with seven a piece.

Lanett:

The Panthers will be playing a Thursday night game this week at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT, due to the possibility of bad weather on Friday. They will still play at home against their first region opponent of the season, Loachapoka.

After a tough loss to Beulah, 38-21, Lanett looks to bounce back against Loachapoka, who lost their first game 12-21. The last time the two teams faced off in 2019, Lanett won 42-0.

However, Loachapoka was dominant in the region last season, going 7-0, and only picked up their first loss in the second round of the 1A playoffs.

Chambers:

The Rebels look to be back to their old selves after a 36-7 win against Fort Dale. For the second week in a row, Chambers rushed for over 400 yards. TJ Daniels was the rushing leader with 134 yards over 14 carries and two TDs to boot. Luke Tarver impressed once again, with 125 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Quarterback, Landon Hand had six carries for 106 yards. He also had 13 passing yards and went three for six.

On the defensive side, Eli Whorton led with six tackles. Bryce Modling had three tackles and an interception on the day.

Head Coach Jason Allen, said a trademark of the team is their physicality which was on display last Friday. The defense shut out Fort Dale on Friday, after giving up 35 points the previous week. Allen said that they have not “come close to reaching our potential as a team,” which should make Rebel fans excited after last week’s win.

They will face off against Valiant Cross in Montgomery on Friday, in the third straight game on their road trip before returning to LaFayette for their home opener.

Springwood:

The Wildcats had fun last Friday against Lighthouse HomeSchool, winning 58-28. The 8-man team had a couple of standouts. CJ Johnson is as impressive, if not more than last season averaging 222.5 yards and 11 touchdowns per game after the blowout.

Greg Johnson III leads the team in passing yards with 81.5 per game, catching two bombs against LHS. Clarence Moore led the game in passing however with 87 yards after a 40-yard pass from Quarterback Wes Carden. In a surprise, O-Lineman Tuker Sides also got on the board after a tipped pass led to 50 all-purpose yards. Sides is also the Tackle leader with nine solo tackles and four assists.

Springwood will be at home again this week to face Southern Prep. SPA is 1-1 and coming off a 41-6 loss against region foe Coosa Valley. The Wildcats beat Southern Prep 54-27 last season.
