Valley:
After coming off of a bye week, the Rams should be well-rested for their game against Marbury on Friday. After a tough 48-0 loss against Clay Central, Valley has to bounce back to get its first region win. They currently stand 1-2 and 0-1 in the region, with plenty of season left to play.
It should be a joyous night for Valley, not only because it will be the Rams homecoming game complete with festivities. It is also a good match-up as Marbury has gone 0-4 to start this season. The Bulldogs have struggled offensively, averaging a little over nine points a game.
Springwood Academy:
The Rams aren’t the only school celebrating homecoming on Saturday. Springwood will play its homecoming game against Coosa Valley Academy. The Wildcats are coming off a heartbreaking rematch against Cornerstone Christian, who beat them in last year’s state championship.
While Springwood lost this year’s match-up 60-12, some of the standouts continue to stand out. On defense, Tucker Sides recorded four solo takes and six assists, double the next player. CJ Johnson continues to impress on both sides of the ball. Against the defending state champions, Johnson tallied 124 total yards.
The two powerhouses could meet again during the playoffs, but to get their Springwood needs to pick up some more region wins. CVA could be a candidate. The Rebels are 1-2 on the season, losing to common foe Southern Prep by almost 40 points after Springwood beat them 44-28.
Chambers Academy:
After playing their first home game last week, the Rebels are back on the road against Bessemer Academy. After falling in their season opener, Chambers has looked like the reigning champs they are. New quarterback Landon Hand has found his groove, running all over Edgewood in last weeks 37-7 win. He led the team with 145 yards last week.
Jason Allen, Chamber’s head coach, said of Bessemer, “This week is a really big game at Bessemer that will have a big say in how the region shakes out.”
Chambers will be back home the following three weeks before a final away game.
