The first quarter was all Ranburne. A slog of a first drive picked up with a 30-yard pass to LaFayette’s 10-yard line. A QB keep opened the score with 5:54 left in the first. LaFayette’s special teams kept an extra point off the board with a blocked kick.
LaFayette’s offense couldn’t make much headway. A blocked punt gave Ranburne the ball on the 36. The visiting bulldogs’s quarterback scrabbled to find receiver own in midfield, getting it down to the 1. With 46 seconds left in first Ranburne made it 12-0.
The tough first quarter was made tougher when Zavion Turner limped off the field.
A bad punt got Ranburne to midfield in the top of the 2nd. With 7:50 remaining, the visitors pulled away to 19-0.
LaFayette’s offense seemed to get a spark with a couple of runs by quarterback Kamari Harrington and a 20-yard pass to Zae’lyn Todd for the hat would have been a touchdown had it not been for an illegal blocking penalty in the Bulldogs.
With under two minutes to go in the half the bulldogs had another chance to bridge the gap. A long pass to Quintavious Lloyd got LaFayette to Ranburnes 30. Another pass got them to the 10, but penalties by both sides halted the momentum, and time would run out.
Isaiah Edwards took a heap of Ranburne defenders with him down to their 40 to get the crowd excited. A bomb by Harrington to Jordan Johnson in the end zone put LaFayette on the board 19-6 with 9:48 left in the third.
Another Bulldog Todd limped off the field halfway through the third. Then a play later Edwards did. The Bulldogs were still able to keep Ranburne from adding on.
On the first play of the drive, Harrington took a hard hit. Looking dazed he was taken off as well.
What looked like a muffed punt did also not go LaFayette’s way and was called Ranburne ball to close out the third.
The fourth would see LaFayette sneak closer but ultimately fall to Ranburne 19-14. The Bulldogs intercepted for a long run back before punching in the night’s final touchdown. They are now 2-1 going into next week’s game against Loachapoka.
