It would’ve been hard for somebody to complain about not having something to do last weekend in Chambers County.

Thursday was the most heart-warming day of all. That was the day of the Special Needs Rodeo at the Chambers County Agricultural Arena in LaFayette. There were hundreds and hundreds of students to play games, wear cowboy and cowgirl hats and enjoy a short rodeo.

“Somebody came up to me in tears because a kid told her it was the best day of their life,” Chambers County Sheriff Sid Lockhart said. “It blesses us more than it does them.”

There are so many negative stories that we must report as a newspaper, but these are the days that many of us in this industry get up and go for work for.

Friday night was time for the professional cowboys and cowgirls to shine under the bright lights of the arena. Hundreds of Chambers County residents descended on LaFayette to watch bullriding, calf roping and steer wrestling for two nights.

The rodeo is one of the bright spots that brings attention to LaFayette and it did not disappoint. The National Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association, in conjunction with the Bar W Rodeo, put on a great show and gave Chambers County something to be proud of.

On Saturday morning, many Chambers County organizations engaged in civic duty to clean up the county or raise awareness for an issue that needs as much attention as possible.

The Moores Creek Project had several volunteers cleaning up trash along Moores Creek in Lanett, the city of Valley hit the streets of the city to pick up trash, as well as taking electronic items at the farmer’s market. Renew Hope 85 hosted a Hope Walk, in an effort to raise awareness for human trafficking.  No matter where you turned, there was something to do and as the weather improves, we hope the events to make Chambers County an even better place to live keep happening.
