Mrs. Glenda Birchfield Pitts — 1945-2019

Mrs. Glenda Birchfield Pitts, 74, of Valley, passed away on July 16 at her residence. 

Pitts was born in Langdale on Jan. 25, 1945, to the late Loomis Birchfield and Rudell Ward Pitts. 

Pitts worked for and retired from the Chambers County Board of Education after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

She was a family-oriented lady who loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She was affectionately known to most in the neighborhood as “Mama G.” She was an animal lover and enjoyed taking care of her cats. 

She is survived by her husband, James J. Pitts, Sr.; son, J.J. Pitts; daughter, Dee Dee (Jody) Colley; sister, Peggy (James) Mason; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. 

A memorial service will be held on July 20 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Fairview Baptist Church.  The Rev. Tim Bass officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday at the church from 1 p.m. EDT until the service hour. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to the benefit of the Fairview Baptist Church.
