Mrs. Priscilla Chambers Johnson — 1955-2019

Mrs. Priscilla Chambers Johnson was born on Feb. 2, 1955, to the parentage of the late Johnny Lee Chambers Sr. and the late Mary Emma Walker Chambers. She departed into Heaven’s gate on Aug. 24 at her home in Valley.

Mrs. Johnson confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem

Baptist Church. She later united with her husband at the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Priscilla worked, faithfully, as a member of the missionary society, deacon wives (treasurer), nurses guild, matron’s department and worked with many other auxiliaries throughout the church. She was very active with the Hope Hills Cancer Support Group in LaFayette.

Priscilla received her education in the Chambers County Public School System, where she was a member of the Valley High School 1973 graduating class. She was a former employee of the Lee County Courthouse.

“Cilla,” as she was affectionately known, was a loving, caring and God-fearing woman. She was loved and admired by many that she encountered. The thing she most admired beside her family was shopping.

On Feb 8, 1974, Priscilla was joined in holy matrimony to Willie Johnson, Jr. and to this union one child was born.

Priscilla was predeceased by her parents and a brother, John Titus Chambers.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a devoted husband, Willie B. Johnson, Jr., of Valley; one son, Will (Shanae) Johnson; grandchildren, Zoe Grace Johnson and Micah Curtis Johnson, all of Kennesaw, Georgia; brother, Johnny (Piper) Chambers, of Valley; sisters,  Mary (Grover) Sims, of LaGrange, Gloria Bailey, of Valley, Barbara Tyler, of West Point; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Chambers and Patricia Hutchinson, of Lanett, Elizabeth Johnson and Jacqueline Williams, of Atlanta; brothers-in-law, Eddie (Gladys) Johnson, of West Point, Jimmy (Natalie) Johnson and the Rev. Bernard Williams, of Lanett, Calvin Williams and the Rev. Chris Johnson, of Jamaica, New York; aunts, Bobbie Vincent, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Affie Chambers and Louise Walker, of Valley; one uncle, William Walker, of Valley; 10 nieces,11 great nieces, 9 nephews, 15 great-nephews; best friends, JoAnn Magby, Priscilla Holloway, Marcia Thomas and Cassie Carlisle; and caregivers, Tina McBride and Mae Chambers. 

Homegoing celebrations for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Aug. 31 at 1 p. m. EDT from the sanctuary of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Lanett, with Dr. Jesse Walker, pastor, eulogist, the Rev. Richard Carter, the Rev. Darrow Windham, Jr., Dr. W. T. Edmondson, the Rev. Terry Magby and the Rev. W. G. Wimberly, assisting. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Valley. The family will receive friends on Aug. 30 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. EDT at the M. W. Lee Mortuary. The remains will lie in state church on Saturday from noon until the funeral hour.  

Public viewing will be on Aug. 30 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the M. W. Lee Mortuary.
